THIEL ARCHITECTURE + DESIGN RECEIVES AIA AWARD

Local Westport architecture firm, Thiel Architecture + Design, known for their mix of commissions including offices, restaurants, retail, and residential projects, has been honored by the Connecticut chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).

Thiel’s design of an office in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn will receive the 2022 award for Excellence in Interior Architecture, one of six Excellence awards given this year. “It is a true honor to be named alongside a group of incredibly talented architects,” said Nancy Thiel, founding principal of the firm. One of the six will receive Connecticut’s Project of the Year at their upcoming awards gala.

Thiel is known for their creative process and pushing the envelope to find new ideas that set their projects apart. Working with Brian Collins, founder, and chief creative officer of COLLINS, an award-winning branding and design firm, Thiel pushed the boundaries of what "office" means in the new work landscape. Impacted by the pandemic, Collins closed his office in Manhattan and streamlined its operations. The design of the new, downsized office functions less as a ‘workhouse’ and more as a ‘clubhouse’, a gathering place where employees come together to re-energize, Zoom with remote clients and collaborators, and do intermittent touchdown work.

The firm recently completed Eco Evolution, a sustainable store, and café in South Norwalk, and is busy designing residential and hospitality projects throughout the tri-state area. Thiel is currently designing the future Weston Town Green, and last year worked with Westport Farmers’ Market on a concept for a permanent home for WFM at the Imperial Parking Lot. The firm, always looking for new ideas, proposed a park along the Saugatuck River, a bird-watching platform by Deadman Brook, and an open-air structure for use by WFM and other organizations in town. Thiel specializes in architecture, interior design, and planning. For further information, go to thieldesign.com
