The mission of Community Plates is to end food insecurity through the rescue and direct transfer of nutritious, fresh foods.  Our innovative technology app and volunteer-driven platform enable us to maximize the quality and quantity of food delivered to hungry families.  Our core values guide every aspect of our work:  Community, Passion, Innovation, Simplicity and Gratitude.

By bringing together food donors, volunteer food runners and receiving agencies who distribute rescued food, Community Plates provides a simple, engaging and most importantly successful way to significantly change the face of hunger in our neighborhoods and cities.

Melissa Spiesman is a long time Fairfield County resident and a nutritionist by trade. Melissa’s introduction to Community Plates was as a food-runner and she quickly moved into the role of receiving agency coordinator for all CP locations. Melissa is committed to developing a strong, sustainable, productive food platform beginning at the original CP site in Fairfield County and implementing these practices with the growth of the organization.
